Our Independence Day

The fourth of July was a relaxed day around here.  I went off to teach Step class in the morning, then picked up a few ice cream ingredients for my Dad's recipe of frozen custard on the way home.  By the time I got here, the rain was almost here too!  It didn't take long for the storm to set in.
Before long, Wyatt was helping move rain catching buckets in the breaks of the storm, and there was a lake growing to the North of the bog chicken pen.  The storm didn't seem to phase the animals at all, I think they loved it bring so much cooler.  We filled a lot of rain barrels.  Charlie and I are going to attend a class later this month for setting up a more formal system for catching and storing our rainwater- something which has been a long goal for us.

In between rounds of the storm, Wyatt ran out to check on his hens.  See the black shadow in the middle of this photo?  He was trying to put feed inside their big barn hen house so the feed wouldn't be ruined in the rain.

Charlie took advantage of the day to recharge his batteries with rest.

Well, the remainder of hte week is a busy one!  Hope we get more rain, because I am already using that water in the greenhouse!
