EEEK! YUM! and others silly interjections...

Funny! The little green egg is just an anomaly from a full sized adult chicken. No yolk, though sometimes the little eggs do. I thought it was funny, especially since the mama hen didn't want to give it up!

Yum! This was a batch of strawberry chia jam. Was, because it is going fast!

I also made regular strawberry jam, got two two pint jars and a quart, that should be great when the fall bread baking starts!

Double YUM!

EEEEEEK! Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am not fond of anything with more legs than the dog or fewer than the children. Spiders and snakes have, however, been in abundance this year! These have been webbing in the back by the container gardens on the porch.

ESCAPE!

This hen cut her eye open diving after the last sunflower seed, not wanting to share with her friends. She spent a little over a week in sick bay, she is now back with her friends.

AWWW...

We have eleven baby chickens here right now. Such fun.We are already telling a few boys in the group, but also some great personalities!

Onward and Upward, Saturday went by too Fast!

Started my day teaching my first step class since the goofy fall this past week.  It went pretty well.  Did a little cardio, picked up some things for dinner, and came home to get busy with chores.

First up: more prickly pear jelly!

I like seeing signs like this.  Sometimes I cannot get specific items made in the USA anymore, but when I can, like in the case of canning jars, I do.

This was part of dinner.  Homegrown chicken, with lemon, garlic and salt and pepper.  No crazy preservatives, or compounds to mess with the body or set off Bailey's headaches and allergies.

Today, I have been working on a workout template for my Pima students, doing a lot of laundry, cleaning and a little work in the garden.  I still love those sunsets, and we have been waiting for the rain they promised for today. (The late news says there are pretty powerful storms heading our way- I need to be careful what I wish for!)

These clouds look puffy and sweet to me...

Down below, though, pretty wild!  Can you see the chickens bedding down for the night?

Bailey was having trouble with a couple sets of hooves, so Charlie pitched in to help while she held them.

This is the Loquat tree I put in the garden today.  I am looking forward to watching it grow!

And this is the fig tree.  They have each grown a good foot while waiting in or near the greenhouse.

Looking forward to see where they go!

Sunday Chores

With record breaking heat, we do chores in shifts and more toward the evening right now.  This hinge was my nemesis this weekend, finding the correct size was impossible, but finally a nice man at ACE helped me find a braket we could use with bolts and nuts to make it function!  Wyatt is so glad to not need a second person at the gate when he sees to his new brahmas!

Wyatt came home from a day of finishing up his hunter's safety class to try to get a few chores in before dinner.  Shadow had missed her boy so much, she tripped me over and over until I took her outside, then she wandered until she found him by voice.  She cannot yet be trusted with the chickens, so she hung out near a water bowl and watched her Wyatt work.

Wyatt has been pulling all of the straw out of the big chicken house, so he can put down new DE and then put fresh bedding in their nesting boxes.  I think this project may take a bit, but he is plugging away!

While packaging the lavender goat's milk soap, then working on laundry and enjoying a family dinner, I got a small batch of prickly pear jelly done!  These jars have been through their water bath and are cooling (sure enjoyed the closing ceremonies while doing that!)  I ran out of lemon juice, though, so the rest will have to go in stages this week!

Well, it is very late, so I had best rotate and fold the laundry one last time, and prep the glassware order that came in tonight so it can go out tomorrow!  Have a wonderful week everyone!
